Anyone who had heard about the Million Vet March on the Memorials knew this march wasn’t meant to be any kind of political statement. Though you had to know that some participating in the march would participate based on their own political ideological beliefs.
You also shouldn’t be shocked that Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin and Mike Lee decided to turn the march in Washington DC into a photo-op for their own political gains.
That being said, the idiocy I witnessed when watching a video taken during a protest outside of the White House is deplorable.
Now I’m not certain what went on prior to the police being called — though a large angry group gathering outside the White House fence is cause for concern — but the police were called out to line the fence for a reason. And after watching the video of the comments made during the 5-minute display of right-wing idiocy, I can see why they were called.
While the video plays, you hear, “This is a peaceful march!” yelled quite a few times. Which is ironic coming from a group of people who are screaming and shouting at police officers.
You can also hear references to the gestapo shouted. Which, of course, is simply ridiculous.
Then we have the random idiot who can be heard saying, “looks like something out of Kenya,” which is an obvious derogatory remark about President Obama’s race.
What did some of these people expect? A group of angry people standing outside the White House yelling and screaming would go ignored by authorities? Sure, the White House is no stranger to protests. Heck, there are probably protests every day. But to call what I saw on this video “peaceful” is absurd. You don’t “peacefully” do something by screaming and shouting at uniformed police officers.
That’s not peaceful.
Another protest was held that seemed to have a more tea party feel as many people around the White House carried signs supporting the impeachment of President Obama (again, he’s done nothing that warrants impeachment) and one speaker saying the president needs to put the Quran down and leave town.
Oh, and let’s not forget the confederate flag which was seen multiple times.
But these people aren’t racists at all, right? Obama’s race has nothing to do with their vile hatred towards him, huh? Oh please. Hell, tea party icon “Joe the Plumber” just recently seemingly endorsed an article that flat-out said “America needs a white Republican president.” Nope, no racism involved at all, nothing to see here.
These people just absolutely drip with ignorance. Here we sit, the government is shut down due to the behavior of their party, yet they’re blaming President Obama? Really?
They’re appalled that these memorials are shut down. Well, what the hell did they think “shutdown” meant? Yes, these memorials are shut down, that’s part of a “government shutdown.” It’s what their party caused and what people like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul spoke out in favor of for the last several months.
But now this is President Obama’s fault? Why? Because he won’t allow Republicans to blackmail him into giving in to their demands?
These people are pathetic. They’re driven by racism, ignorance and pure stupidity.
They call for Obama’s impeachment yet can’t name a valid reason why he should be impeached. They stand there and attack his race, then seem shocked that people call them racists. They stand there supporting a political party which wants to pretend to be angered at the closure of these veterans memorials—while their party often cuts funding for VA benefits.
This is just more of the same behavior from Republicans. They’re blaming someone else for a problem they caused. Their party is the one that’s not allowing the House to vote on the Senate’s clean continuing resolution that would reopen the government. We could reopen the government today if John Boehner would just let the House vote, but he won’t.
So when these people show up at the White House holding symbols of racism and shouting things which are racist, while blaming President Obama for the government shutdown, they prove one glaring fact…
That they don’t know a damn thing.
